What we deliver
- Oak — the workhorse. Dense, burns long, produces steady heat. The best choice for a fireplace or wood stove that's your primary source of ambiance or heat.
- Cherry — burns cleaner and slightly cooler than oak, with a great smell. Nice for fireplaces where the aroma matters as much as the heat.
- Hickory — dense and high heat output. Also great for smoking meats if you have a smoker or grill that uses hardwood.
All three are proper hardwoods — no mixed pine, no scrap, no partially seasoned filler.
What "seasoned" means (and why it matters)
Seasoned firewood has been split, stacked, and dried long enough that its moisture content drops from ~50% (fresh green wood) to under 20%. That's the difference between:
- Green wood: heavy, hard to light, smoky, produces less heat, and cakes creosote in your chimney — a real fire risk over time.
- Seasoned wood: lighter, lights easy, burns hot and clean, produces good coals, minimal smoke.
The tell is weight and cracks in the end grain. Seasoned wood is noticeably lighter than green wood of the same size, and the cross-section usually shows radial cracks from the drying process.
Delivery details
- Standard delivery is a clean drop in your driveway or a spot you designate. Most homeowners want to stack it themselves.
- Stacking is available for an additional charge — tell us where and how.
- Volume: we deliver by the cord (128 cubic feet, stacked) or half-cord. For most casual users, a half-cord is plenty for a Louisville winter. For heavier use, plan on a full cord or more.
- Delivery area: the same Louisville East End we serve for other work, plus most of the surrounding neighborhoods.
When to order
The best time to buy firewood is late summer or early fall — before the first cold snap when demand surges. If you wait until November or December, you're competing with everyone else who forgot to buy wood in September, and inventory tightens up. Ordering in August or September also gives you time to stack it properly and let it fully finish seasoning if you want to burn it later in the winter.
That said, we do keep inventory through the winter and can deliver mid-season for clients who run out.
